Say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.

“To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.”

Aristotle

Since our last post, so much happened that I don’t even know where to start..

In our last post we told that it was the last week of Sara in Portugal. We were expecting a calm week so we could deal with the process in our own way. However, things don’t always turn out as you like.

This project has travelled around the world, literally.  It took off in our own country and we reached our destination, Dubai. People all over Linkedin, Twitter and Facebook were sharing our project and motivating us, but then…

Then, our project reached the portuguese media,  P3 published our project on Monday and Tuesday we were waking up to the sound of the most heard radio station in Portugal talking about us.

I’ll not talk about what we’ve read in Facebook comments and even personal emails, I don’t think that those people deserve my time but it would be great that people could actually open an article and don’t stick for the title only.

Mea Culpa for using the term crowd fund. It was a mistake as this is actually a crowd source. Never in this blog, the word money has been written.  But if people actually read the articles they would know this, right? 😉

But every cloud as a silver lining and my contacts in Dubai increased a lot. We’ve received several direct contacts and endless encouraging an helpful messages. These people didn’t even knew us but they lost 5 minutes of their time to help us, guide us and not criticized. For these people:

Thank you for making the world a better place, for real.

Regarding news about Sara, she left Friday and is already rocking at the Emirates Academy! As for me, I’ll be there in the first two weeks of October to see her and for some face-to-face meetings!

It took a while to process that this project was shared almost 8K, so once again, thank you everyone for the support!

Speaking for both of us:

We’re truly sorry for the fact that we actually did something for us, for our relation and for our life-goals. Criticism will always show up by those who can’t understand this.

Cheers,

Rodrigo

The Final Countdown

Hey everyone!

I don’t even know how to thank everyone, I’ve just updated our website and finally got the share count from Facebook summed up with the shares from LinkedIn… I never, NEVER(!!!), thought we would be reaching almost 900 shares! It’s crazy!  The feedback we received, the share counts and most important, the connections, make me believe that this was one of the greatest ideas we’ve ever had!

I’m now taking part in two interviewing processes for Dubai and I couldn’t ask for anything better as I’m running for a position at two amazing design companies! One of this opportunities came from a share of this website… to the person who got my profile there, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

But every cloud as a silver lining…we’ve just entered the final countdown for Sara’s departure. It’s sad because she would love to have more time to say goodbye to our friends but at the same time she’s eager to start this new adventure! We’ll be separated for one month but we are now more confident that I’ll join her very soon!

To everyone who keeps pushing for us, a big THANK YOU, for real. I’ve never dreamt of this impact.

For those who are new to this project, share it, spread it, tweet it!

TURURU RU, TURURU TU TU! The final countdown!!

Rodrigo

Everyday is Throwback day

But today is Thursday so I must do a throwback to some moment in the past.

Throwback to the moment when this photo was taken, a friend’s wedding in July when we first told our friends about this project which was only an idea by that time. They were so excited and thrilled with the idea that they made us do it, with no excuses! It was great to hear from others that this idea wasn’t ridiculous and that it could really work!

Today I tell them,

THANK YOU!

Thanks for the boost, thank you for believing in our story and thank you for sharing like it was your own story! It really means a lot to us!

The idea is actually working and my Linkedin profile has been on fire but I’m still looking for a opportunity in Dubai, so please share this website, make us reach the right person in Dubai!

P.S: NERD ALERT : So Facebook just deprecated it’s API function to get the share count, so right now we are only getting the Linkedin count

What’s up LinkedIn?

Hello everyone!

Once again, thank you everyone for the shares, comments and advices you’ve been giving us. We are really happy and amazed by how many people have been helping us.

While actively searching for job opportunities I noticed a usability issue in LinkedIn jobs section.

Basically when you’re looking for jobs in LinkedIn and choose to save the job position, it doesn’t provide any relevant feedback for that action, specially if you have LinkedIn in English or Portuguese where it only adds one letter! Well, most of you don’t notice this or even care about it but as a UX Designer this details pop right out to me! You can check for a full and technical review from this issue in this dribbble shot.

Today was a quick and technical shot about user experience and tomorrow you’ll be presented with a lovely post by Sara, until then, please don’t stop sharing and helping us reaching Dubai’s ears!

Share it, tweet it, like it, hire me!

In case you might have forgotten, I will be in Dubai in the beginning of October, so let’s meet up.

All the best,

Rodrigo

First goodbyes

First and foremost, we would like to thank you all!
Since the launching day, our website has been rocking!
A lot of people shared our page and we have received some important contacts and messages so far. However, the job isn’t finished and we are still searching for a job for Rodrigo. In order to make it easier, we updated the homepage with his CV and skills, so no excuses now!

About our weekend, the first round of goodbyes has started 🙁
Since this was a XL weekend due to a national holiday today, we decided to head up north and spend a couple of days in Oporto with friends.

I personally hate goodbyes because I don’t think that you should say goodbye to people that have been part of your life for the past years. However, as the time passes, more and more friends have gone abroad and therefore “goodbye” has been a part of the routine lately. So even though it was a farewell, we had a lot of fun and we hope to see each other soon in Oporto, Barcelona, Dubai or wherever in the world.

We would also like to get to know your friends. So if you have a friend or a contact in Dubai that might be useful to us, don’t hesitate to get in touch! Also, don’t forget to keep spreading the word and share our story! We would be grateful!

Yours,
Sara

Hello World!

No, this is not a standard hello word post. We are really saying hello to the world!

This is our first post in this blog and by now we hope you understood what this is about. Don’t leave me here is a small website designed and built by us in order to get more connections in Dubai. Our idea is to build a crowdfund for connections, referrals and even interviews in Dubai.

As we wrote on the first page, Sara is moving to Dubai and I don’t want to stay behind so I’m looking for a job opportunity in Dubai as a UI/Ux Designer and Front-End developer. In case you know any opportunity of this kind, let us know! If you don’t, please share, share, share our page.

We will be posting regularly in this blog. From written posts, to dribbble shots and Instagram photos, we will create content related to this project and we hope you stay tuned.

Right now, the first news we can give is: I’m traveling to Dubai on October 1st  for a round of interviews and field reckon! So if you are interested in meeting me, or if you have a friend of a friend of a cousin that has a design company, let’s meet up. Don’t hesitate to drop me a line!

Stay tuned for more news!

Rodrigo

P.S: Rodrigo is huge SL Benfica fan, so this photo would be a dream for him!
